Need some prop sizing/type help
« on: April 06, 2009, 12:13:30 AM »
I\'d like some advice. I\'ve been struggling with my prop issues for quite some time. I run the 22 Robin Tunnel in my photo below. The boat has a 130hp Yamaha 2 stroke. It is 8\'6\" wide with a tower. It only draws 5\" with one person. It has a 6\" jack plate on it that takes the prop above the keel. Currently I have an aluminum 13.25 x 19 3 balde in less than good condition. With two people it hits wot at 5200rpms and 35mph. This doesn\'t seem right. The hole shot sucks too. Also, I can\'t jack it higher than 3\" without the prop slipping a lot.I tried a SS 13.25 x 19 4 blade. It definitely solved the prop slippage. I could jack up all of the 6\"\" and got no slipping at all. The boat also handled better. Unfortunately, I couldn\'t get the RPM\'s over 4900 but also hit the 35mph top speed. What should I do to get a great hole shot, maximium prop bite on the flats, good response and a higher WOT and top speed?    Then I guess I\'ll need to address the high heat situation when jacked up 6\". Low water pick-up I guess.

I\'d probably try a 17 pitch Trophy Plus.

I\'ve got one if you want to give it a run

Hey Ken,I was hoping you\'d chime in. You brought out the 13x19 that I tried but you had no 17\'s. It may even take a 16 pitch but I\'d like to try the 17. Are you available this weekend?

I might be.Give me a call either way, I\'ll meet you somewhere and let you borrow the prop for the weekend if I can\'t make it to the ramp this weekend.

A 13 x 17 4 blade should get you at 5400 RPMs.Should get to 40 with it.
